It’s been quite some time since we’ve had a great post-apocalyptic style movie that was a blockbuster hit like Mad Max: Fury Road. In fact, it did so well in the theaters that they’re planning to release a prequel to the movie. We caught up with George Miller, the director of Mad Max: Fury Road, to get some insight on what he’s planning for this prequel.
“Well, it’s simple really.” (sips his drink) “I want to show how Max was like before the Thunderdome. Before he was a Road Warrior or on the latest Fury Road. I want to take the viewers to a simpler time. When Max was still Max Rockatansky – normal guy.”
Could you explain to us by what you mean when you say a “normal guy”?
“Max was still around before the world went to shit. The current Max doesn’t know how old he is. He doesn’t know what’s what anymore. Pretty much, he only knows one thing in his current world. That’s survival of the fittest. We’re going to take the viewers back to the time before the apocalypse. Back to when Max was a normal guy working nine to five.”
Wait, you want to make a movie about Mad Max being an average schmo?
“Max is not an average schmo. That’s a bit strong to describe him as such. He’s still Max, but he’s not ‘Mad’ yet. You’re going to see Max tackle a job interview like he tackles fuel trucks from Fury Road. You’re going to see Max spend time with his family and take them out to the park and what not. You know, normal stuff. We’re naming the movie….Sane Max.”
Uhhh…wait. So the prequel to one of the biggest blockbusters in the country, is going to be called Sane Max? I don’t think people will want to watch a movie like that. We’re just being honest.
“Your honesty is pleasant, but not needed. Listen, people watch movies like The Big Short or other business style movies and they’re hits. We’re gonna put Max in that situation, without the explosions and car chases. You’re going to see why he’s still a badass while wearing a suit and is clean shaven. Just remember that it’s ‘Sane Max’ to be released in 2018!”
There you have it, folks! I’m not sure if this is the prequel that everyone has been asking for, but we can all trust in George Miller on this one, right? I wonder if he’s still going to have his modified Interceptor as he goes on his job interviews? Let’s all just hope that Tom Hardy doesn’t just mumble in the prequel.
