Recently, DC relaunched their comics in the Rebirth event. It is not a reboot like the New 52’s, but instead, the series brings back characters and stories that fans know and love. This move seems to be working, as sales in August show DC pushing past Marvel in comic sales.
DC published nine of the top ten best-selling comics for the month, according to sales records reported by Comichron. Harley Quinn #1 proved to be the big winner in August, selling an estimated 359,957 copies. All-Star Batman #1 and Suicide Squad #1 followed in second and third place, with Marvel entering (and leaving the top ten) with Amazing Spider-Man #17 coming in fourth.
The top ten best-selling comics for August 2016 included:
1) Harley Quinn #1 (DC)
2) All-Star Batman #1 (DC)
3) Suicide Squad #1 (DC)
4) The Amazing Spider-Man #17 (Marvel)
5) Suicide Squad Rebirth #1 (DC)
6) Batman #4 (DC)
7) Batman #5 (DC)
8) Justice League #2 (DC)
9) Harley Quinn #2 (DC)
10) Supergirl Rebirth #1 (DC)
While some people may argue Marvel’s success over DC in the box office, no one can argue that DC is still fighting in when it comes to the source material.
