Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 premiere ‘Home’ review

Ash vs Evil Dead Season 2 2016

If I could sum up the season 2 premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead in one word, I would say it’s definitely “Groovy.” With a 8.7/10 on IMDB and a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, Ash vs Evil Dead is a surprising hit, bringing Bruce Campbell to the small screen in a role that only he can carry.

Following the once dead but now resurrected format of the Ash story, the third season premiere episode, “Home,” starts off with a look into what Ash has been up to in Jacksonville, Florida. (You might remember that it was a part of his deal with Ruby at the end of Season 1.) Clearly Ash hasn’t changed much as he tries to get the awkwardly erotic mother/daughter combo but ends up chainsawing a couple of deadites. They spew out an old nickname of his “Ashy Slashy,” which draws up some really negative feelings that let him know he needs to go back home to Elk Grove, Michigan. So team Ash picks up and heads back home to see what’s going on, and Pablo begins to have visions that are related to his time when he was merged with the mask of the Necronomicon.

In his hometown, you meet Ash’s dad, Brock “The Cock” Williams, who is clearly the one who fathered Ash. He spews out inappropriate one liners faster than Ash ever could. From here Ash heads to a bar where he runs into an old flame and acquaintance who reminds him that Ashy Slashy isn’t wanted back. This episode really sets a view of Ash that you haven’t seen, an Ash that’s nervous and uncomfortable around people who know the old him.

Meanwhile Kelly seems to be much stronger and has some great scenes involving her kicking ass. The most surprising performance though goes to Ruby, who was the bad ass evil bitch. Now she is a scared and vulnerable mother who is torn between saving herself and the world or saving her own evil kids.

Overall I rather enjoyed the season 2 premiere as it holds true to what Ash vs Evil Dead is. It gives a glimmer of what we can expect in this zany and bloody show. Hail to the king, baby.
