There have been some pretty amazing comic book movies that have come out in the last few years, but for some reason they just can’t get it right with The Fantastic Four. Both 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer were received very poorly by critics and the 2015 reboot did even worse as it was universally panned. With that said, there may still be a worse adaptation of the popular Marvel comic book team.
The average fan may not realize this, but there was a 1994 Fantastic Four film that was produced by Roger Corman but was never actually released. It’s hard to imagine a worse adaptation than the 2015 reboot, but this could be it. Writer/director Marty Langford explores this very topic in a new documentary called Doomed! The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four.
It was announced over the weekend that the new documentary has been acquired for distribution by Uncork’d Entertainment and will be released on VOD on October 11 and on DVD on December 20. Among other things, Doomed! will explore the reasons behind why the film was never released.
“Doomed! is such a compelling documentary — and not just for comic book movies but anyone intrigued by the ins and outs of Hollywood and business,” said Uncork’d Entertainment President Keith Leopard. “In short, it’s a Fantastic movie.”
Maybe the filmmakers tasked with the inevitable follow-up or reboot film can learn something from this new documentary.
