While millions are waiting for Michael Bay’s next Transformers film, Transformers: The Last Knight, other hardcore fans are looking forward to Machinima and Hasbro’s animated web series, “Transformers: Combiner Wars,” that captures the classic animated series while also giving them a dramatic new tale. The series has launched today on Verizon go90.
The eight-episode web series takes place 40 years after the Transformers war on Earth and features old and new characters.

During San Diego Comic-Con, executive producer Eric S. Calderon spoke to Nerd Reactor on why he favored CG animation compared to traditional animation for the series.
“I really wanted to do CG,” Calderon replied. “I love anime and I love what’s happening there. I think CG in Japan has gone incredibly sophisticated in the past five to six years. Especially when we’re doing very toy-accurate combiners, so you know Menasor and Computron were so close to the toy design, it’s actually much more producible in 3D than 2D. Also in Japan, much of the mecha has all gone 3D, so there’s only a few series that do true 2D mecha. It just seems like a wiser, more interesting choice.”
Synopsis: The Autobots and Decepticons have disbanded and returned to Cybertron. With the days of Optimus Prime and Megatron over, Cybertron is now ruled by a triumvirate. However, an ancient technology has enabled a new threat, the power for multiple Transformers to combine into one massive, dangerous form: Combiners. Who will stand-up to this threat to ensure that the fragile peace that was 4 million years in the making remains?
