Starting next month, Sony will be raising the price of its PlayStation Plus Membership by $10 if you plan on subscribing for a year. While it’s not necessary, PlayStation Plus is the only way you can play multiplayer games online including fighting games online.
“This marks the first time that PS Plus membership prices will increase in the U.S. and Canada since the launch of the service in 2010. The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.”
The price increase isn’t exactly ideal. In the past Sony offered some great free games for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita though in past months it hasn’t been anything great. However any games you may have downloaded in the past using PlayStation Plus are tied to that service, so if you are like me with a huge backlog of games you downloaded, it’s not a bad idea to renew your service. You should definitely buy one or two of the subscription cards before the price increase on September 22nd.
