New Destiny: Rise of Iron details have emerged from the most recent issue of Game Informer. Released in a 16-page spread, the magazine reports tons of new information about what gamers will expect in the upcoming expansion. A few stand out details are as follows:
Light Level Increase 385/400
We first got a glimpse of the light level increase during Bungie’s Cosmodrome Winter Tour that had one of the developers pause mid-game and change one of the control settings. Viewers watching the stream quickly noted the current light level at 355 and many questions what would be the new increase in light level. Since Rise of Iron is being treated as an addition rather than an overhaul like The Taken King, players will remain at level 40 but can attain a light level of 385. Furthermore, once the hard mode of the raid is released, about a few weeks after launch, players will be able to reach light level 400. We can expect new rare, legendary and exotic items along the way.
Artifacts are being overhauled
One of the many additions to The Taken King is being revamped in Rise of Iron. Artifacts that players can receive will become more dynamic and interactive. There will be 8 new artifacts, one for each deceased Iron Lord, that will grant you new abilities to your characters. Two examples were provided: One that allows you to gain the allegiance of an enemy by hitting them with a melee attack, and another that eliminates your Super but grants two grenades, two melee hits and increases all your stats. And seeing as these new artifacts aren’t class specific, you can mix and match and come up with new builds for your guardians. These new artifacts can be obtained from Tyra Karn, a new character that gives you tasks to complete to gain a new artifact each week.
Events beyond Rise of Iron’s launch
With Rise of Iron slowly making its way, Bungie has already revealed plans for the few months after its launch. Two events from last year will make their return, which are The Festival of the Lost and the Sparrow Racing League. Although it’s common for annual events to mirror our calendar holidays (like the Festival mirroring Halloween), the Sparrow Racing League’s return solidifies the event in an annual form rather than a one off event. We can expect The Festival of the Lost to be updated with Rise of Iron content with masks and quests while Bungie has new plans for SRL.
From Game Informer: “When we talk about SRL coming back, it’ll probably be wrapped in a different style, not just focused around SRL,” says live team director Jerry Hook. “Because some of the stuff that we learned from our players around the Sparrow Racing League is that some people didn’t like racing. So, can you do something with the event that helps support those players a little bit differently? Absolutely.”
No word yet on what exactly they have in store for SRL. Expect more news in the weeks to come especially with Gamescom around the corner.
