Natalie Portman’s son is old enough to appreciate Star Wars; however, she has not allowed him to see the prequels in which she starred in as Padme Amidala. Looking back, we all know the prequels are now a bit cringeworthy to watch but a necessary backstory to the Star Wars universe. Well this isn’t the reason that Natalie is withholding the prequels from her 5-year-old son, Aleph. She revealed the real reason this week in an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“He has not, but he knows about it, of course,” she says. “It’s kind of a shame because you know when I made it, I was like, ‘This is going to be the coolest thing, one day when I have kids, I can show them.’ And boys of course are obsessed with it and know all about it before they’ve seen it. Then I realized: I die in the movies. I feel like it’s kind of a scary thing to show your kid.” Whoa! She’s right, as cool as it would be to see your mom as Senator Amidala, it would be a bit traumatizing to see her death played out on film.

At least we know she will eventually get to share all of the Star Wars films with her son once he gets a few years older. Natalie Portman played Padme Amidala in films Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Her character has the pivotal role as Anakin Skywalker’s wife, mother to Luke and Leia Skywalker and late grandmother to Kylo Ren from the series’ recent installment Episode III.
