Marvel adds Danai Gurira’s name in Avengers: Endgame poster after outrage

Marvel released a new poster and trailer for Avengers: Endgame this week, and it had everyone excited about the remaining heroes coming together to help out those who are gone. The poster features the surviving heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and each character has the name of the actor at the top… all except for Danai Gurira, who plays Okoye. After the internet outrage over the omission, Marvel released a new version of the poster with her name added.

Check out the original poster below with Gurira’s name missing.

Hours after the release of the poster and trailer, Marvel posted the updated poster with Gurira’s name, placing her between Karen Gillan and Bradley Cooper. In the tweet, it said, “She should have been up there all this time.” This line is a reference to her quote in Avengers: Infinity War when she was talking about Scarlet Witch coming down to help her and Black Widow.

During the events of Avengers: Infinity War, we could see Okoye looking worried as Black Panther disappears in front of her eyes. She definitely has a stake in helping out along with the other Avengers.

With the new poster, people took the chance to make fun of the situation.

One person used a gif of Okoye throwing her wig at a bad guy in Black Panther, joking about the parallels of the fans throwing the poster back at Marvel.

Another user posted a viral meme where a guy is looking at Avengers: Endgame instead of looking at Captain Marvel.

Other users supported the move by Marvel by saying it’s a better poster.

Official Synopsis: The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

The film is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from the screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26, 2019.
