Deadshot was portrayed by Will Smith in the live-action Suicide Squad film by director David Ayer. Warner Bros and DC are going ahead with another Suicide Squad film and has brought Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn on board. With news of Will Smith not returning due to a scheduling conflict, there is a new report where Idris Elba (Thor) will be taking over as Deadshot.
Idris Elba is coming to Suicide Squad, according to THR. This marks another actor from the Thor films to join the DC side. Zachary Levi, who played Fandral in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok, can soon be seen as Shazam next month.
Margot Robbie played Harley Quinn in the first film. Since she’s going to appear in the upcoming Birds of Prey movie with the ridiculously long name, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn), it’s still not certain whether audiences will see her in The Suicide Squad.
In the THR report, Elba had a meeting with Gunn last week about the role and it seemed like it went off without a hitch. It’s also said that Warner Bros liked the script by Gunn very much.
What can fans expect for the upcoming film? It’s reported that it’s not going to be a direct sequel and will be acting more as a relaunch with mostly new characters and actors.
The first Suicide Squad film didn’t do well with critics, but audiences ate it up since it raked in $746.8 million at the box office worldwide with a budget of $175 million. The film follows Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, Killer Croc and other members as they are forced to stop a threat. Government official Amanda Waller is able to lead the team of villains thanks to deadly devices implanted in their bodies.
The Suicide Squad is expected to hit theaters on August 6, 2021.
