Guido Milligan, Original Member of Zug Izland, Passes Away

Recently, it was revealed that Guido Milligan, founding member of Zug Izland, has passed away. His passing was mentioned on the official accounts of Insane Clown Posse and Zug Izland. It was also mentioned elsewhere that he was found by police at his home and COVID-19 seemed to be a factor in his death; however, it was assured that he was not home alone for long until the police arrived.

In the early 2000s, Violent J had wanted to form a new project that focused on the rock/metal genre. Vocalist Syn and guitarist/producer Mike P. had done studio sessions for Psychopathic Records, and the trio decided to form a fully-fledged band initially called Zug Island, but later changed to Zug Izland. Guido was the original bassist for Zug Izland, and he was a part of the initial lineup that also featured Syn on vocals, Mike P. on guitar, Lil’ Pig on drums, and Dan Miller on keyboards. Their first single “Fire” was released just before 2002’s Gathering of the Juggalos, followed by a stream of compilation appearances and online samples. Their debut album’s title was originally 627 West End, but was changed to Cracked Tiles when it was released in early 2003. Although Violent J was not a band member, he contributed heavily to the lyrics, and overall Cracked Tiles was a unique release for Psychopathic Records. Along with Violent J, the album also featured Shaggy 2 Dope, Anybody Killa, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, and Jamie Madrox. After recording on the album, Guido was sidelined from remaining in the band because of health-related issues. He returned to play on their second album in 2004, 3:33. 3:33 was a more straightforward approach, with most of the creative duties handled exclusively by Syn and Mike P. instead. Esham and Sponge‘s vocalist Vinnie Dombroski were notable contributors to 3:33. Mike P. and Syn has continued Zug Izland into the present day with various lineups and new releases.

Prior to and after Zug Izland, Guido was involved in the music scene with a plethora of local Detroit acts, such as Letrick Kramer, Doctor Detroit, Red C (which featured Susan Calloway, a singer known for her adaptions and covers from the Final Fantasy video games), Coda, Under Pressure, Unglued, Norma Jean Bell (known for working with Frank Zappa, and also having an extensive saxophone career), Sofa Kings, and others. Overall, his musical journey had started in the late 1980s and continued to the present. In addition, he was a lab technician for a vision company and stayed on the career path for over a decade. He was always described as someone that was down-to-earth and easy to talk with, and had made a lot of friends along the way.

Faygoluvers extends our condolences to Guido’s friends and family. Guido had a front row seat during a very prominent era of Psychopathic Records, but in the grand scope of things, that was just one of many boxes ticked off his list of adventures. We’re saddened to see him go, but the contributions he created and friendships he formed will forever be shared.
