Fantastic Four: John Krasinski would love to become the MCU’s Reed Richards

Since Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige had confirmed that they’re indeed developing a new Fantastic Four film at last year’s Comic-Con, many fans have already started choosing actors and actresses that they think would be the best ones to playJo Marvel’s first family. It soon became pretty clear that the most popular and favorite fan casting would be the real-life married couple and A Quiet Place duo John Krasinki and Emily Blunt to take on the mantle of Mister Fantastic and The Invisible Woman. A lot of fans pointed out that this could be very possible given the two actors’ history with Marvel Studios, who have previously considered both actors for major MCU roles.

During an interview with Comic Book, Krasinski was asked about the possibility of him taking on the role of the MCU’s Reed Richards. The Jack Ryan actor revealed that he is indeed very interested and open to becoming the leader of the Fantastic Four because of his admiration for Marvel movies. However, he clarifies that he hasn’t really had any conversations with Kevin Feige or Marvel Studios about it.

“I would love to do it,” Krasinski said. “I think to be a part of the Marvel world would be amazing anyway, and the fact that people would even consider me for that level of a part would be amazing. I genuinely have had no conversations or don’t know anything that’s happening with that. I’m awaiting Kevin’s announcements of what the hell’s happening with that as much as you are.”

When asked if he would also be interested in directing a Marvel film someday, he answered,  “Wow, that’s a cool idea. It’s so interesting because I’m such a huge fan of Marvel. I think they do their own… They have such a great formula. Yeah, I’d jump in there. In Kevin [Feige] I trust. That dude is not only the most talented guy, but the nicest guy. Yeah, whatever he wants, we’d discuss it.”

In 2010, after Chris Evans was officially cast as Captain America, Marvel Studios had confirmed that John Krasinski was one of the top actors who the studio considered for the role. In later interviews, Krasinski had also confirmed it, revealing that he was able to wear the famous suit during his audition. Meanwhile, Emily Blunt was the first actress-director Jon Favreau had cast to portray Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow in Iron Man 2. But to due scheduling conflicts with another project, she exited the role and was replaced by Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson.

Later on, it was revealed she was also offered the role of Agent Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger but like Iron Man 2, she turned it down. If things played out differently, it was very possible that Blunt would have ultimately been paired up with then-boyfriend John Krasinski.

Last January, rumors have begun to emerge that Blunt had reportedly met with Marvel Studios during the production of her upcoming Disney film Jungle Cruise. Because of this, many fans are hoping that this might be a sign that their dream Fantastic Four casting might finally come true.

Loosely based on Marvel’s “Ultimate Fantastic Four” comic series, the previous Fantastic Four film from 2015 which starred Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan was mired in controversy from the start, including a controversial tweet from director Josh Trank sent the day the film opened, lamenting the quality of the final cut. The film went on to gross just $56 million at the domestic box office with a global total of $167 million. It reportedly cost about $120 million to make.

Previous to this version Tim Story directed two big-budget versions, 2005’s Fantastic Four and 2007’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, which grossed a combined $619 million worldwide. Roger Corman infamously produced a completed-but-shelved version of The Fantastic Four in 1994 which was never meant to be seen and was only made to secure the rights for a future version, though bootlegs widely exist.
