After losing their Star Wars trilogy earlier this year, Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have found their next project in the form of an untitled horror-thriller based on the Vertigo graphic novel Lovecraft, according to Deadline.

The film, which is being scripted by Phil Hay (Destroyer) and Matt Manfredi (Ride Along 2), is keeping its plot details close, but sources report the story will pose the question, “What if H.P. Lovecraft was telling the truth the entire time across his works and all of the monsters he created were actually real?” While the exact plot may be under wraps for now, it’s been revealed that the film will be set in 1920 within the Chthulu mythos.

Benioff and Weiss have had their eyes on an adaptation of the film  for years and have been in talks with Warner Bros. heads Courtenay Valenti and Toby Emmerich to get it off the ground, with the duo busy focused on bringing Georg R.R. Martin’s acclaimed fantasy novel series Game of Thrones to life on the small screen at HBO. The two also signed a large creative deal for film and TV projects for Netflix back in August after the conclusion of the HBO series, which sparked their departure from the Star Wars universe, as their work for the streaming service caused them to bow out of the trilogy they were set to develop for the Lucasfilm brand.

Hay and Manfredi have written together on numerous problems, two of which were helmed by the former’s spouse Karyn Kusama, The Invitation and Destroyer. The 51-year-old director is set to executive produce the film alongside Warner Bros.
