Telling Lies, the game about secretly recorded video chats, has a release date

Sam Barlow created a unique game with Her Story, where you had to solve a missing person’s case by searching video clips of a woman being interviewed in a police archive. By typing in the search field, video results would pop up, and clues inside them would lead to other tapes. It really felt like spying on a stranger’s life, and Barlow is doubling down on that with his upcoming game, Telling Lies. It’s an investigative thriller game, and Annapurna Interactive has announced that it will be out on August 23, 2019, for the PC, Mac, and iOS.

Telling Lies features a collection of secretly recorded video conversations, courtesy of the NSA. As a player, you have access to an anonymous laptop with two years of stolen footage following the lives of four people. The four actors are Logan Marshall-Green (Spider-Man: Homecoming), Angela Sarafyan (HBO’s Westworld), Alexandra Shipp (X-Men: Apocalypse) and Kerry Bishé (Netflix’s Narcos), and they are tied together by an event. And like Her Story, you’ll be exploring the database by typing search terms, watching video clips, and then piecing the story together.

Check out the launch trailer below. It’s very much a teaser, but it gives you insight into the personalities of the four people.

If that’s not enough for you, check out the E3 trailer that feels very invasive where we get to see private online videos of people chatting.

The game is developed by Sam Barlow. Telling Lies will be available for the PC, Mac, and iOS on August 23, 2019.
