HBO Max wants Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men for streaming deal

The streaming wars are officially upon us, as several big-name sitcoms are being eyeballed by several upcoming streaming services to help lure in subscribers.

According to Deadline, WarnerMedia is eyeing the long-running favorite The Big Bang Theory, which could fetch $1 billion. The outlet notes that WarnerMedia could be prepared to offer $1.5 billion for a package deal that includes both The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men for its upcoming mega-platform, HBO Max.

The stakes are high, in part, because neither series has previously been available on a streaming service before, beyond a few Big Bang Theory episodes on CBS All Access from time to time. Given the massive deals behind shows like Friends and The Office, which have both proven their worth on Netflix the past several years, this pair of Chuck Lorre-produced series would, effectively, be making their streaming debut.

Add to the appeal that The Big Bang Theory just wrapped up its 10-season run, while Two and a Half Men continues to do well when airing in syndication, each show would be an invaluable addition to these burgeoning streaming services, all of which will be fighting for subscription fees.

Should the deal go through, HBO Max would boast Friends, Big Bang Theory, and Two and a Half Men at its 2020 launch, making it a viable contender to take on the more established streamers like Netflix and Hulu.
