Blumhouse’s Into the the Dark renewed at Hulu

According to Vulture, Hulu has renewed Blumhouse’s Into the Dark anthology series for a second season, or, as the trade reports, nine more episodes that “offer a twisted take on an American holiday or tradition.”

Each episode in the first season’s 12-episode run was inspired by a holiday from the month of its release, albeit with Blumhouse’s signature genre/thriller spin on the traditional story. Blumhouse Television, drawing on its deep talent relationships, iworked with a broad section of filmmakers, creators and actors to bring this unique, first-of-its-kind series to Hulu audiences.

“What we want to replicate is the kind of filmmaker-driven vision for the films,” said Blumhouse TV co-president Marci Wiseman. “We’ve brought Hulu filmmakers who are vision first, script later, and they have been unbelievable partners in letting us build this collection. The idea is diversity of entertainment within the collection rather than sameness. We lean into the fact that it’s a fun experience to come every month and you don’t quite know what’s coming, rather than seeing something expected.”

The next episode, titled “Pure,” is centered around Daughter’s Day and focuses on several teen girls at a Purity Retreat who start to see a supernatural entity after participating in a secret ritual. The girls must now battle the demon while simultaneously dealing with living up to their fathers’ expectations.

Hannah Macpherson wrote and directed the episode based on a story by Paul Fischer and Paul Davis. The episode stars Jahkara Smith, McKaley Miller, Scott Porter, Annalisa Cochrane, Ciara Bravo, Jim Klock, and T.C. Carter. It hits Hulu on September 6.
