A reimagining of Child’s Play is hitting theaters in the summer, and it looks to be taking a different route in how Chucky comes to life. In the original film, a serial killer takes over the body of a child’s toy. In the new film, it looks to be an AI robot toy gone rogue. Orion Pictures has released a new trailer, and we get more mayhem as the result of the little killer doll.
In the trailer, Chucky is still a mysterious figure since we don’t have a good look at the doll, other than the quick shot near the end. So it seems like he’ll be moving around in the shadows for the most part of the film. Additionally, it looks like the killer doll can control smart devices as if Skynet is taking over.
Synopsis: A contemporary re-imagining of the 1988 horror classic, Child’s Play follows Karen (Aubrey Plaza), a single mother who gifts her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) a Buddi doll, unaware of its more sinister nature.
The film is directed by Lars Klevberg, written by Tyler Burton Smith and produced by Seth Graham-Smith and David Katzenberg. It stars Aubrey Plaza, Gabriel Bateman, Bryan Tyree Henry and Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky.
Child’s Play slashes into theaters on June 21, 2019.
