The 55-year-old actor and comedian first found minor fame on the Canadian sketch series Bizarre before launching to stardom on Saturday Night Live, for which he was a main performer and writer from 1989-1995, breaking out in the film world in 1992 with the feature-length adaptation of the SNL skit Wayne’s World, which was a critical and commercial success and spawned a 1993 sequel and a large cult following.

“I love creating characters, and Netflix has given me a fantastic playground to play in,” Myers said in a statement.

Myers is also well-known in the film world for his roles as both the titular hero and villain characters in the spy comedy trilogy Austin Powers and the beloved ogre Shrek from the DreamWorks franchise, as well as supporting roles in Quentin Tarantino’s 2009 war drama Inglorious Basterds and last year’s Oscar-winning Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. He has more recently been seen on ABC’s revival of the classic game show The Gong Show portraying its fictional host Tommy Maitland, for which he was uncredited on the first season but earned credit for both his portrayal and his executive producing on the second season.

The Netflix series will also reunite Myers with John Lyons, who previously executive produced the latter two Austin Power films, and Jason Weinberg, who serves as an executive producer on The Gong Show, as both will serve as executive producers for the series.
