Dark Phoenix is going to be the last X-Men film from Fox, and it’s going to retell the Phoenix storyline that was also seen in X-Men: Last Stand. (Only this time Wolverine isn’t going to be a major player.) The movie studio has released the final trailer for the film, and it heavily features Jean Grey as the deadly threat to the X-Men.
The trailer does reveal information on how Jean Grey got the power of the Dark Phoenix, which is more in line with her comic book origin when compared to X-Men: Last Stand. We also get a glimpse of Jessica Chastain’s character, who seems to be the personification of the Phoenix as she guides the mutant into a path of the dark side. And then there’s Cyclops, who will do whatever it takes to bring Jean Grey back, but Magneto has other plans in mind.
Hans Zimmer said previously that he wasn’t going to score another superhero film after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Well, looks like he changed his mind since he’s attached as the composer for this film. Not only that, but he’s also going to be doing the music for Wonder Woman 1984.
Synopsis: In DARK PHOENIX, the X-MEN face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite — not only to save Jean’s soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.
The film is written and directed by Simon Kinberg and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix hits theaters on June 7, 2019.
