CinemaCon 2019: Mufasa teaches Simba the circle of life in Lion King clip (footage description)

The Lion King Theatrical Poster

Although Jon Favreau has said that his version of The Lion King won’t be a shot-for-shot remake of the original, everything that has been shown so far says otherwise. Sure, there are minute differences between the original and the footage from CinemaCon. Yet the scenes are still very similar.

The footage begins with a young Simba trying to wake up Mufasa from his slumber. Mufasa mentions that before sunrise he’s Sarabi’s son. Eventually, Simba gets his way. Mufasa goes atop of Pride Rock but Simba is unsure that he should be up this high. It’s here that Mufasa gives Simba his iconic “everything the light touches is our kingdom” speech to Simba. The only difference is that Mufasa tells Simba that it is their duty to protect everything in their kingdom.

Afterward, Mufasa teaches Simba about the circle of life. How the antelope eat the grass and how they become the grass once they die. At this moment, Zazu comes in to report the news to Mufasa. There is a slight difference here between the original and the remake. In the original, Mufasa forces Zazu to participate in a pouncing lesson. In this version, Mufasa teaches Simba to pounce on Zazu without him noticing. Needless to say, Zazu isn’t happy that he was pounced on. “It’s important to hear the news,” Zazu says in a very John Oliver way.

You see, although the clips aren’t exactly the same, it’s still relatively the same. Considering that The Lion King is one of the greatest animated films of all-time, maybe that’s not such a bad thing. Also, the “live-action” talking animals are extremely realistic and extremely adorable. Fans will definitely marvel at the realism that Jon Favreau has put together for The Lion King.

The Lion King hits theaters on July 19th.
