Deadline reports that Sarah Michelle Gellar has been tapped to star in and executive produce a limited series based on BBC journalist Alice Feeney’s novel Sometimes I Lie. Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production and Warner Bros. TV will develop the series, with DeGeneres serving as executive producer alongside Jeff Kleeman.

Per the report, Robin Swicord (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) will write the script based on the international bestseller released in March 2017 by HQ/HarperCollins in the UK and Flatiron/Macmillan in the U.S.

Gellar will portray Amber Reynolds, a woman who wakes up in a hospital bed without the ability to move or speak. However, unbeknownst to those around her, she can hear every thing, and must piece together the events that led to her current circumstance — of which her husband may have played a part. The series will supposedly jump back and forth in the timeline to show the present, the week before her accident and a “series of childhood diaries from 20 years ago.” The series marks Gellar’s third show since the popular Buffy the Vampire Slayer, following CW’s Ringer and CBS’ The Crazy Ones with Robin Williams.

The trade notes that Sometimes I Lie marks the first limited series for A Very Good Production, which has focused mostly on comedies, including ABC’s Splitting Up Together, and a variety of reality series shows, including NBC’s Ellen’s Game of Games. The company has also been developing the animated series Green Eggs and Ham for Netflix.
