Deep Silver has released the new Gamescom 2018 trailer for Shenmue III, the highly anticipated game that continues Ryo’s journey as he tries to find his father’s killer, Lan Di. Even though the facial animation is still lacking, it looks to be a big improvement from the previous trailer. Of course, this is an indie project that was funded via Kickstarter, so gamers should have realistic expectations. In addition to the trailer, it’s been revealed that the third game in the series will be released on August 27, 2019 for the PlayStation 4 and PC.
Check out the trailer below.
Some of you may be thinking, “Why isn’t Sega publishing the game?” Well, if they wanted to, they would have done it a long time ago. However, here we are, and Yu Suzuki, the creator of the series, resorted to Kickstarter to help make the game. Since Sega does own Shenmue, that means the company licensed the property to Suzuki and his studio, Ys Net, so that they can finally bring the next chapter to life. And Deep Silver came in to help with publishing. With that said, Sega is still keen on the Shenmue saga since it recently released Shenmue I and II for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
Will Shenmue III be the final game in the series? Suzuki tells French website Gamersflag, “[Shenmue III’s] end will be open for a sequel.” I guess that means Ryo won’t get the chance to avenge his father’s death just yet.
