Michael Stuhlbarg: Call Me by Your Name Director ‘Serious’ About Sequel

Michael Stuhlbarg: Call Me by Your Name director ‘serious’ about sequel

Michael Stuhlbarg believes a sequel to the critically acclaimed, Oscar-winning drama Call Me by Your Name is a very real possibility, according to The Playlist.

Speaking with Far Out, the actor revealed director Luca Guadagnino “seems to think that we might be able to pick up the action a few years later, to see what’s happened to these characters and the choices they’ve made, and life after this particularly momentous summer for them all. But it sounds like something he’s serious about, and André Aciman is thrilled I think at the idea.”

Of course, Guadagnino is currently hard at work finishing up his remake of the 1977 Italian supernatural horror film Suspiria, starring Dakota Johnson. So, whatever plans he has for a Call Me by Your Name follow-up are definitely on the back burner for the time being.

Though, Stuhlbarg dropped a few hints as to what a follow up film could be about: “There are portions of the book that we didn’t mine as thoroughly.”

He didn’t hold back his enthusiasm for the sequel, either though, saying: “I’m curious about it myself and I would be thrilled to be a part of any kind of a sequel. It was a very special experience for all of us. I think it would have to be some kind of unique thing from what it was, but I would absolutely be game for trying.”

Starring Armie Hammer, Timothée Chalamet and Michael Stuhlbarg, Call Me by Your Name is produced by Peter Spears, Emilie Georges, Guadagnino, James Ivory, Marco Morabito, Howard Rosenman, and Rodrigo Teixeira. Naima Abed, Tom Dolby, Sophie Mas, Lourenco Sant’Anna, Derek Simonds and Margarethe Baillou served as executive producers. Original songs in the film were written and performed by Sufjan Stevens.
