It’s time for your regularly-scheduled release date shuffle, with an added bonus of competition. Warner Bros. has announced that their upcoming comedy Game Night has moved from March 2, 2018 to February 23, 2018, a date it now shares with Paramount’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Annihilation. Paramount Pictures has set their feature film adaptation of the ’90s horror series Are You Afraid of the Dark? for October 11, 2019, a release date that it shares with WB’s adaptation of The Goldfinch.

Game Night stars Jason Bateman (Horrible Bosses, Arrested Development) and Rachel McAdams (Spotlight, Doctor StrangeTrue Detective) as Max and Annie, a couple whose weekly couples game night gets kicked up a notch when Max’s charismatic brother, Brooks (Kyle Chandler), arranges a murder mystery party, complete with fake thugs and faux federal agents. So when Brooks gets kidnapped, it’s all part of the game…right? But as the six uber-competitive gamers set out to solve the case and win, they begin to discover that neither this “game”—nor Brooks—are what they seem to be. Over the course of one chaotic night, the friends find themselves increasingly in over their heads as each twist leads to another unexpected turn. With no rules, no points, and no idea who all the players are, this could turn out to be the most fun they’ve ever had…or game over.

Game Night is directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley (Vacation) from a script by Mark Perez (Accepted).

Are You Afraid of the Dark? will be written by IT screenwriter Gary Dauberman and based on the Canadian horror anthology series that ran on Nickelodeon from 1992-1996. The series featured a group of teenagers who called themselves “The Midnight Society” who would gather around a campfire at the beginning of each episode to tell a scary story ranging from abandoned houses to vampires and killer clowns to witches.
