Universal Studios is taking horror to the next level with Halloween Horror Nights 2017. And it has brought Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever) on board to direct its new TV spot called “The Mourning After,” making it his commercial directorial debut. The commercial features a group of friends visiting a Halloween costume party, but they’ll uncover things that go bump in the night.
The horrifying event will premiere at both Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort on Friday, September 15. You can check out the TV spot below, and it will be airing after the Labor Day weekend. Also, keep an eye out for Easter eggs from horror films and shows like American Horror Story, The Shining and Saw.
You can also check out the behind-the-scenes video below. Roth talks about how he is excited to play around with the different properties and fit them all in a 30-second commercial.
“I first got involved with ‘Halloween Horror Nights’ as a fan – I felt that I was in a horror movie and I didn’t want it to end,” said Roth. “For this spot, I wanted to pay homage to these brilliant and scary films, and yet put my own spin on it.”
