Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are officially confirmed for the upcoming sequel to 2014’s lukewarm box office hit Edge of Tomorrow. The original film was a great combination of a Groundhog Day meets Battle Los Angeles premise. And it ended up being an entertaining mix when it was put on film. Based on the popular Japanese manga, All you need is Kill, the Warner Bros. film grossed $370 million but was critically acclaimed scoring a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is rare for what some people would think is a generic sci-fi action film. The name of the sequel will be Live Die Repeat and Repeat.
Live Die Repeat and Repeat Is Currently In the Works
During an interview with We got this Covered, Director Doug Liman stated, “I’m actively working on Edge of Tomorrow 2 right now, which is going to go by the title Live Die Repeat and Repeat. Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are both signed on.” He then stated, “We have an amazing story! It’s incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film. It will be called Live Die Repeat and Repeat. Tom [Cruise] is excited about it, and Emily Blunt is excited about it. The big question is just when we’ll do it. But it’s not an if, it’s a when.”
Synopsis: When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Tom Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight — and his death — over and over again. However, Cage’s fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens.
If you remember. Live.Die.Repeat was the explanatory tagline for the film which makes it understandable as to why they would use it as a sequel title vs Edge of Tomorrow, which makes many people think of Saved By The Bell: The College Years.
