The Martian author Andy Weir’s new book Artemis has gotten a release date and a film deal

The author of the 2011 novel “The Martian,” Andy Weir has a new book on the way. “Artemis” will be released on November 14, 2017 and the rights have already been picked up by Fox and New Regency, according to Variety. As you recall, “The Martian” was adapted into the 2015 film starring Matt Damon. The new book “Artemis” is set on the first and only city on the moon in the near future and centers around Jazz Bashara, a porter and low level smuggler who encounters a dangerous opportunity.

The Amazon description for the book reads as follows:

“Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you’re not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you’ve got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of her problems, as she learns that she’s stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself—and that now, her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even riskier than the first.”

The news was announced along with Crown Publishing’s release date information. Simon Kinberg and Aditya Sood will produce for Genre Films, based at Fox. “I’m really excited about ‘Artemis,’” Weir said. “I got to do the science-dork stuff I love, but this time with a much more complex and character-driven plot. It’s a big stretch for me, but I think it came out well. Hopefully the readers will agree.”

The Martian was directed by Ridley Scott and received seven Oscar nominations. Are you guys excited for Artemis? Will you read the book? Let us know in the comments or tweet us @ComingSoonnet.
