Rainway App will allow you to stream PC games to Switch, Xbox, and more

Have you ever wanted to run your PC games on more than just your computer monitor, but didn’t have the means to do it? Well now you can, with the help of Andrew Sampson and his team!

Rainway is an app in development by Andrew Sampson (known for Steam Cleaner, Borderless Gaming) designed to stream your PC games over to devices such as your Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, smartphones and even tablets. No mention of the PS4 yet, but it’s safe to assume Sampson will want it on as many platforms as possible.

Apparently, this app is able to stream to any system with a GPU that supports streaming to a web browser. We’ve seen this done before on devices like the Nvidia Shield, Steam Link, PS Vita’s remote play, etc. Sampson states in the original announcement that “Rainway’s signature feature is that it’s available on any device with a web browser. You’ll simply visit play.rainway.io, log in, and kick back with your favorite games. Native apps for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, Xbox, and other platforms are being developed to provide an even more seamless experience.”

An app like this would be beneficial in case your PC is in your office, but you want to play on your big screen TV in the living room. What’s even better is that if you have a Nintendo Switch, you will be able to play on your TV, and on the go, as long as you have a stable internet connection. This, however, brings up a concerning point: how well does your internet connection have to be in order to stream “seamlessly,” as the quote states. This is part of the reason why cloud game streaming, like PS Now, hasn’t taken off that well; if you have a mediocre connection, you’re going to have a bad time trying to play your games.

It’s more than likely that Sampson is aware of such a dilemma, and will take it into account once Rainway hits various app stores sometime in the future. While there is no confirmed release date for the final version, you can pre-register for a beta of the app on May 5th.
