Axel Alonso says Marvel Legacy special will break the internet

Marvel Legacy
The Marvel universe has become rather unrecognizable as of late. The alter egos of all the popular superheroes have been replaced with lesser known or brand new characters such as Sam Wilson, wielding Captain America’s shield, or newcomer Riri Williams, donning the Iron Man armor. That’s about to change. Recently, Marvel announced Marvel Legacy which will act as a relaunch and rebranding of its comic book line. The event will take a ‘back to basics’ approach while reuniting fan-favorite characters with their superhero personas. Most importantly, perhaps, it’s going to break the internet according to Marvel editor-in-chief Axel Alonso.

This came out in an interview with ABC News as Alonso was describing the special issue in greater depth. He explained how Marvel Legacy will function “as a preview of what’s to come.” He elaborated by saying, “It’s chocked full of twists, surprises, Easter eggs, and let’s just say, a last-page reveal that’s probably gonna break the internet. It’s a big moment, something we continually get asked about. We are going to answer that question.”

So, what could possibly be so shocking that it would break the internet? Tony Stark could awaken from his coma and return as Iron Man, although that wouldn’t be overly shocking. The original Thor could take up the mantle once again, of course. However, what’s more likely to break the internet is the return of the Fantastic Four. The team members have been separated since 2015’s Secret Wars, which ended with half of the team, Reed Richards and Sue Storm, outside of reality, helping to rebuild it after the events of the storyline.

The Shocking Thing in Marvel Legacy Won’t Be a Death

Whatever happens, it won’t be a death as Alonso explained, “None of Legacy hinges on the death of a major character at all. A lot of this may hinge on some resurrections. If there ever were a time to bring back characters, it would be during the Legacy era.”

Besides the ‘internet breaking’ situation, the series is expected to address whether or not a single universe can feature multiple people using the same superhero alias.

Marvel Legacy will be a giant 50-page one-shot written by Jason Aaron and drawn by Esad Ribic. It’ll feature a four-panel foldout cover by Joe Quesada. The book is due out this fall.
