AMC’s ‘Into the Badlands’ renewed for a third season

AMC has announced the renewal of their hit martial arts series Into the Badlands for a third season.

The third season is set to premiere in 2018 with an expanded 16-episode season. The series is currently in its second season with the sixth episode airing this Sunday.

“‘Into the Badlands looks like nothing else on television, a literal high-wire act attracting passionate and dedicated fans by the millions,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV, and AMC Studios in a press statement. “Thanks to series creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, the terrific cast, led by Daniel Wu, the amazing martial arts team guided by the incomparable Master Dee Dee and fight directors Stephen Fung and Andy Cheng, and everyone else involved who brings this thrill ride to the fans.”

According to the Nielsen live-plus-three ratings, Into the Badlands averages 2.1 million viewers ages 25-54, making it the fourth most-watched drama on cable in the demo.

Into the Badlands centers around Sunny, a Clipper, living in a post-apocalyptic world called the Badlands where barons rule the lands. As a clipper, Sunny is a skilled assassin but turned away from that life to find a new home for his partner and their son. After being kidnapped and taking outside the Badlands, Sunny must find a way to return home to save his loved ones.

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar serve as showrunners and executive producers for the series. Stacey Sher, LaToya Morgan, Michael Shamberg, David Dobkin, Stephen Fung, Michael Taylor, and Wu serve as executive producers.

“We are excited and grateful to continue our journey into the Badlands with Charlie, Joel, Susie and all of our friends at AMC,” Gough and Millar said in a joint statement. “We also want to give a big clipper salute to our Irish and Chinese partners! The thought of doing an expanded 16-episode season is both thrilling and exhausting!!”

Into the Badlands airs on Sunday at 10 pm on AMC.
