The Matrix was a revolutionary sci-fi film about a computer hacker who becomes the savior of mankind as he and his team fight against the machines. Now it looks like the film is going to be rebooted, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
The report also says that Warner Bros. is looking at Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Fantastic Four, Marvel’s Black Panther) for the lead role. However, Jordan can’t commit to the role yet unless some of his projects are cleared.
Zak Penn (The Incredible Hulk, Elektra, Ready Player One) is attached to write.
So far the Wachowski sisters (Lana and Lilly), who directed the original trilogy, are not attached to the film. Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Carrie-Anne Moss are also not attached.
Reeves has mentioned that he would consider doing another Matrix film, but that’s only if the Wachowskis would be returning. The sisters are currently working on the second season fo Netflix’s Sense8.
The Matrix franchise also consisted of The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolution, Animatrix, Enter the Matrix and Matrix Online. The second and third movie were considered disappointments to many fans. The Animatrix, a highlight in the Matrix franchise, featured many short animated films from renown Japanese directors. Perhaps Warner Bros. is hoping that the reboot will help popularize the franchise again.
