I have poured countless amounts of hours into the Diablo franchise and two classes always controlled my passion: Wizard/Sorceress and the Necromancer. Since the Diablo III base game already sated my needs when it came to Wizards, I’m obviously going to be talking about the Necromancer.
For those who don’t know, Necromancers in the Diablo universe utilize the power of the dead including powers over blood, bones, and other dark art type materials. Blizzard already announced we would be getting the Necromancer in a future content pack and even showed off some of the expected tools for a Necro like Bone spear and Corpse explosion. During our hands-on time during GDC, we got to test run the female Necro and she came with an entirely new build. While the previous one was a ranged build, we got to get up close and personal utilizing new skills that allow Necros to survive while in the thickest of hordes.
Our Skillset for the day looked like this:
- Grim Scythe: Swing a giant ethereal scythe to deal damage while restoring essence (Necromancer’s main resource for spells).
- Blood Nova: Just like the name sounds, instantly shoot out an AoE wave of blood to deal massive damage at the cost of the Necro’s own health. (Fastest way to wave clear when surrounded or overwhelmed.)
- Devour: Consume all corpses nearby to restore Essence. (Great to use after clearing a bunch of smaller enemies before taking on the bigger baddies.)
- Golem: Summons a powerful Golem. Ours had the Blood rune so when it spawned it would absorb the blood from nearby enemies while transferring it to us as health. (Need some health immediately? Resummon your golem in the middle of your foes to restore your health as well as a minor pull effect.)
- Blood rush: The Necromancer would dash a short distance in the direction of our cursor rendering her invulnerable for the duration. (Combos really well with Blood Nova. Dash in and Spam, Rinse and Repeat)
- Leech: A curse that causes all supplementary attacks to restore health to you and your allies. (#alwayscastfirst)
Along with the new character, the Rise of the Necromancer Pack will include an in-game pet, cosmetic wings, two character slots, two stash tabs, portrait frame, pennant, banner, and banner sigil to show off your love for the undead rising caster. As to be expected there will also be new legendary and set items to collect that will be tailor made for the Necromancer.
