Bungie reveals ‘The Road Ahead’ for Destiny before Destiny 2

Since the announcement of Destiny 2 is still on its way this Fall, there has been no real news since then. Earlier today Bungie did reveal some details to come for Destiny and confirmed a few details regarding the transition to Destiny 2. Next Wednesday, Bungie will reveal their final update for Destiny, which is named Age of Triumph and coming at the end of March with new challenges and rewards to earn.

The update will be revealed in 3 Live Twitch events as follows:

  • Age of Triumph Reveal
    Wednesday, March 8th
  • Age of Triumph Weekly Rituals
    Wednesday, March 15th
  • Age of Triumph Sandbox Update
    Wednesday, March 22nd

Officially, this will be the final chapter for Destiny and Bungie sees it as a fitting end. When it comes to Destiny 2, however, they did reveal something we’ve all wondered regarding our characters and their journeys:

Sequels represent the start of a new adventure for every player, with new worlds to explore, new stories to tell, new powers to acquire, new loot to earn, and much more. This led us to a decision that would enable us to serve both the game and the player’s best interests: Destiny 1 power, possessions, and Eververse-related items and currency will not carry forward. They will, however, remain accessible to you in Destiny 1.

This news comes as a surprise and relief. Seeing as most players wondered about their Guardians and the journey that was promised from Bungie, it’s disappointing knowing that we technically won’t be playing as the same guardian for the 10-year journey. They did say that the character will be carried on through the race, class, gender and cosmetic choices, so it will be your Guardian that will carry on the journey just without everything you picked up from Destiny. That in itself it possibly the best decision for Destiny players, and as Bungie states in its post, it allows them to further the advancements of the game without being held back by previous decisions made.

One good example being in World of Warcraft where they were able to rebuild the world of Azeroth nearly from the ground up to allow flying mounts, something that hindered the progress of Cataclysm in terms of content. And yet, still to this day they have decided against the main bag being upgraded beyond the 16 slots due to the programming code. They’ve had lots of technical changes and upgrades both in game mechanics and graphics, but that bag will always remain the same.

Still without hard news regarding Destiny 2, all we can do is wait it out and see what’s to come for the end of Destiny. Do you like what Bungie has planned for your Guardians? Let us know in the comments!
