Actor Ron Glass passes away

Ron Glass passed away recently at the age of 71. He’s played many roles throughout his lifetime. Of note, he’s been on an episode of the popular series FRIENDS and Star Trek: Voyager under his belt which is impressive. However, he is better known to his hardcore fans as Shepherd Derrial Book from Firefly and Serenity. He apparently passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home, which was reported by both his agent and close friends of his.

One of Ron’s Facebook friends, Star Saulter, posted about Ron’s passing which was bitter sweet.

“My Buddhist Brother and Friend, Ron Glass passed last night. I had called him 11/15/16 to find out how is doing since it’s been a few months since I had see him last and his nurse said he was not up to talking. I called back on 11/16/16 and said to the nurse: “let him know that I love him and really care, if you find me annoying, I just missed seeing him. The man that look so good as he age’s”.

Next, I called Ron Carter, for him to find out for me how is Ron Glass is doing. Thinking that this could be a man thing. Ron Carter text me at 2:33 AM this morning of his passing.”

Not unlike Mr. Glass from the movie Unbreakable, Mr. Ron Glass’ characters were just that, unbreakable. He made the most impact with Shepherd Book of Firefly and the way he carried that character throughout the series made you love him despite the crew thinking he was a bible thumper; which he was not. I’ll close with one of the best dialogue between the characters Shepherd Book and River Tam from Firefly.

Book: What are we up to, sweetheart?
River Tam: Fixing your Bible.
Book: I, um…
[alarmed]
Book: What?
River Tam: Bible’s broken. Contradictions, false logistics – doesn’t make sense.
[she’s marked up the bible, crossed out passages and torn out pages]
Book: No, no. You-you-you can’t…
River Tam: So we’ll integrate non-progressional evolution theory with God’s creation of Eden. Eleven inherent metaphoric parallels already there. Eleven. Important number. Prime number. One goes into the house of eleven eleven times, but always comes out one. Noah’s ark is a problem.
Book: Really?
River Tam: We’ll have to call it early quantum state phenomenon. Only way to fit 5000 species of mammal on the same boat.
[rips out page]

Book: River, you don’t fix the Bible.
River: It’s broken. It doesn’t make sense.
Book: It’s not about making sense. It’s about believing in something, and letting that belief be real enough to change your life. It’s about faith. You don’t fix faith, River. It fixes you.

Rest in peace, Mr. Ron Glass.
