With Microsoft’s Project Scorpio launching next year, consumers are starting to be a bit concerned with the price point it will launch at. Following Sony’s announcement of the PS4 Pro, Microsoft confirmed that they believe the Scorpio to be the “most powerful console ever.” Statements like this tend to cause users to wait for the proverbial hammer that is the large price tag to drop.
However, in a statement in an interview with NZ Gamer, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said Microsoft developed the Xbox S at the same time as Project Scorpio so it “thought about the price performance of what we wanted to hit with the Scorpio, relative to what we were going to be able to do with the S.” Spencer essentially is saying not to worry about the price since Microsoft wants to keep the prices of the Xbox S and Project Scorpio so there isn’t a disconnect in the two due to price.
Spencer adds that “[Project Scorpio] will feel like it’s a premium product, a premium console. And not something, anything more than that.” And that people shouldn’t be “worried that this thing is going to be unlike any console price you’ve ever seen, [they] didn’t design it that way.”
