Disney has been busy with pumping out live-action versions of its animated films. So far we’ve seen the release of Maleficent, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, The Jungle Book, and the upcoming Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. The House of Mouse has announced that it’s going to tackle Mulan, and it’s in search of a Chinese actress to play the lead role of Mulan. (Maybe Ming-Na Wen, who voiced Mulan in the animated film, will have a role in some capacity?)
Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver (Jurassic World) are rewriting a spec script by Lauren Hynek and Elizabeth Martin that was bought by Disney in 2015. The script combined the legendary Chinese ballad and the Disney animated film.
No director has been revealed yet, but Jason Reed, Chris Bender and Jake Weiner are attached as producers.
The animated film followed a young woman disguising herself as a man so that she can take her father’s place in the Chinese army. She is joined by a magical dragon as she helps fight against the Huns and become a heroine.
The movie is scheduled for a November 2, 2018, release.
