Tesoro Olivant A2 Pro Headset review

A2_Pro_view_5_merge-20160118-01I’ve always been in the market for a new gaming headset after rocking a pair of Turtle Beach X12’s in the Xbox 360 days. They offered superb stereo sound, but after using them for a while, I now desire surround. Fortunately, Tesoro offers a headset that delivers 7.1 Digital Surround Sound for as much as the X12’s were worth in their heyday.

The Olivant A2 Pro is a 7.1 Surround headset is compatible with just about every current-gen console and device: PC, PS4, Xbox One, Wii U (only with the 3.5mm jack into the gamepad), smartphones, tablets, etc.. Considering I own all the consoles and PC, this pleased me. For those with multiple consoles, this is definitely a headset worth looking into.

The headset is very lightweight at cost of build-quality, which shouldn’t be too concerning unless you like throwing your stuff around carelessly. I accidentally dropped it a couple of times with no damage present (probably because I don’t want to look for it). The cord it comes with is conveniently long and allows for great mobility in an average space. I’ve gotten up multiple times to swap game discs and I never had to take them off.

For long play sessions, the Olivant A2 Pro is extremely comfortable due to its light weight and one-size-fits-all headband. Included is a detachable uni-directional microphone that I’ve used for in-game chat, telephone calls, and game streams; I do not recommend the latter as the speech sounds incredibly muffled, okay for party chats and calls, not for streaming. You can witness my pitiful stream if you want an example.

Sound quality is, of course, the biggest factor in deciding how good a gaming headset is. Thankfully, the Olivant A2 Pro delivers if you take into account the $60 price tag. It doesn’t sound bad at all, it’s just that I’ve heard better coming out of significantly more expensive headsets, but you get what you pay for and you pay for some good quality sound! While the driver software is mediocre at best, I’ve tested the sound out on games like DoomOverwatch, and No Man’s Sky, and I was satisfied each time.

Final Reaction

Coming in at 60 U.S. dollars, the Olivant A2 Pro is a perfect solution for anyone in the market for a gaming headset under a three-digit price tag. It may not sound as good as a more expensive headset, but it’s still amazing! I honestly didn’t know how much it cost until after I used it and I was astounded. Being compatible with all devices is a huge plus, even if you just want a headset for music this is a good option. I’ll definitely be using the Olivant A2 Pro for my future gaming ventures and I don’t see myself “upgrading” anytime soon!
