Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory star Gene Wilder has passed away early this morning, reported by TMZ. He was 83 years old.
The legendary actor was known for his comedic roles such as Mel Brook’s The Producers, Blazing Saddles, and Young Frankenstein, as well as his hilarious partnership with Richard Pryor in comedies Another You, Stir Crazy, Silver Streak, and See No Evil, Hear No Evil. The actor was most famous for his role as the iconic Willy Wonka in the classic 1971 fantasy film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He later went into retirement from acting, but reappeared briefly for a stint on Will & Grace, which earned him an Emmy. His 2005 memoir Kiss Me Like a Stranger: My Search for Love and Art detailed Wilder’s search for truth and a thoughtful analysis of why the choices he made-some of them so serendipitous they were practically accidental-changed the course of his life. He later became an author with his collection of fiction.
RIP Gene Wilder.
