Well, it seem like we’re never going to get that Gambit film, starring Channing Tatum, off the ground. Darn.
According to Variety, it seems that Director Doug Liman of the aforementioned Marvel film has hit the ground running, leaving the project up a creek without a paddle. Sources tell that the split was mutual between the studio and Liman, but I’m pretty sure this doesn’t leave Marvel with a good taste in their mouth. Well, now would be a perfect time for DC and Warner Bros. to step in and swoop on a free director! Oh wait-
Also announced today was that Liman will be given the reins on the upcoming DC Entertainment adaptation of Dark Universe-a.k.a., Justice League Dark. The plot details are still unrevealed, but the basic premise of the story revolves around a dark Justice League team that consists of some of DC’s most interesting characters: John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman, Zatanna, and Etrigan the Demon. Although the film is a unique property, and an unknown to many fan, it is slated to play a major role in the new DCCU. Liman, more notable for his contributions as Producer with films like the Bourne series, has had great success in the director’s chair with films like the first Bourne film, The Bourne Identity, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and Edge of Tomorrow.
Despite the fact that film was originally intended to be directed by the master of macabre, Guillermo del Toro, but was shelved due to his other projects, Justice League Dark is gaining steam, with the landing of a director hot off his recent film, The Wall.
What do you think of Liman directing Justice League Dark? Do you think this is a good choice? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
