Slowly, but surely, Marvel Studios is closing in on a director for Captain Marvel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Niki Caro (McFarland, USA), Lesli Linka Glatter (Showtime’s “Homeland”) and Lorene Scafaria (Seeking a Friend for the End of the World) are on the shortlist for the highly-coveted job.
The three contenders were narrowed down from a shortlist that also included Jennifer Kent (The Babadook), and Jennifer Yuh (Kung Fu Panda 2). THR is quick to point out that a decision won’t be made anytime soon since Marvel is being very deliberate in its search.
Niki Caro’s filmography includes 2002’s Whale Rider, North Country, McFarland, USA, and The Zookeeper’s Wife. Lesli Linka Glatter primarily directing credits come from the television realm including Showtime’s “Homeland,” “Ray Donovan,” “The Newsroom,” “True Blood,” “Mad Men,” “ER,” and “The West Wing.” Last but not least, Lorene Scafaria’s filmography includes Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, The Meddler, and wrote the screenplay for Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, starring Michael Cera and Kat Dennings.
